On Saturday, I attended a demonstration of Monarch butterfly tagging at Dorothy’s House Museum in Garden Hill. It was fascinating! I had no idea that butterflies were such hardy souls! Amazingly, Monarchs fly in masses to the same winter roosts, often to the exact same trees. I watched as he withdrew each one & attached a tiny ‘tag’. (Click on title for full post)

Women who had sheep were very lucky. Spinning, knitting, weaving and sewing all came from those sheep. And when the woollen clothing and blankets were too worn to patch any more, they could be turned into winter quilts and later, mats to warm the floor. Rug hooking was born!

We don’t all need to own every tool for a small job, we aren’t all experts or experienced at everything, and a barter/borrow group would be another great way to bring community together. It should be simple, money-saving and time-saving.

When I bought this 155-year-old house in 1998 there was a wood stove in the back corner of the keeping room (old time all-purpose room). I was thrilled just imagining the cozy warmth during our long, cold winters.
